Ankara and Abu Dhabi seem to be repairing their ties, as both governments have pledged to enhance cooperation in the area.
As relations between Turkey and the United Arab Emirates strengthen, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has landed in Abu Dhabi for the first visit in over a decade, marking an important step forward.
Erdogan was received by the de facto ruler of the Gulf state, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, who paid a visit to Ankara in November, during which billion-dollar investment agreements were struck between the two countries.
In a report published on Monday, the Turkish news agency Anadolu said that the two nations had signed 13 agreements, including ones on defense, commerce, climate change, industry, and the economy.
Erdogan, speaking earlier at a press conference at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport, said that the visit's goal was to shape the next 50 years of "friendship and brotherhood" with the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that "we do not regard the security and stability of the sister nations in the Gulf area to be distinct from our own."

Erdogan's visit, which is the first since 2013, "marks the beginning of a new, constructive chapter in bilateral ties," according to Anwar Gargash, the UAE president's advisor, in a tweet.
In English: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit to the United Arab Emirates, which comes after the visit by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Turkey's capital, marks the beginning of a new, positive chapter in bilateral relations between the two countries. It is also in keeping with the UAE's efforts to strengthen communication and cooperation bridges in order to contribute to the development of a stable and prosperous region.
Professor Abdul Khaleq Abdallah of political science in the United Arab Emirates tweeted on Sunday that the two nations should work together to strengthen their "strategic political cooperation."
Relations between Turkey and the oil-rich United Arab Emirates have been tense for years, as both nations have supported opposite sides in regional wars and disagreed on other matters such as gas extraction in the eastern Mediterranean.
Tense relations were improved, however, as Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed visited Ankara in November, marking the first high-level visit to the country since 2012.
Following that visit, the UAE announced the establishment of a $10 billion fund for investments in Turkey, where the economy has been struggling and inflation has risen to levels not seen in almost two decades.
According to the official UAE news agency WAM, the two nations also inked a total of ten agreements in the areas of security, economics, and technology.
