Airline services to Ukraine are being re-evaluated in light of the potential for conflict.

Following the cancellation of flights by Dutch airline KLM, Ukrainian charter carrier SkyUp redirects a flight due to concerns raised by a leasing firm.

Some airlines have canceled or diverted flights to Ukraine in response to warnings from the West that a Russian invasion is coming, despite the fact that Kyiv has said that it would maintain its airspace open.

In spite of the fact that Russia has amassed tens of thousands of soldiers along Ukraine's border and has accused the West of "peak hysteria," the country maintains that it does not aim to invade the country. On Saturday, a phone conference between US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin failed to produce a breakthrough, with the United States threatening Russia with crushing consequences if it engages in military action.

Russia has demanded that the United States-led NATO alliance withdraw from Eastern Europe and never expand into Ukraine. Western politicians are fighting back against these demands.

Flights to Ukraine have been canceled by the Dutch airline KLM until further notice, the firm said on Saturday, in response to concerns expressed by Western countries.

Following the downing of a Malaysian airliner travelling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur over a region of eastern Ukraine controlled by Russia-backed separatists in 2014, the Netherlands has increased its awareness to possible risk in Ukrainian airspace. All 298 persons on board, including 198 Dutch residents, perished in the crash.

After the jet's Irish leasing firm refused authorization for the plane to enter into Ukraine, the Ukrainian charter airline SkyUp reported on Sunday that its flight from Madeira, Portugal, to Kyiv had been redirected to the Moldovan city of Chisinau.

While everything is going on, the Ukrainian government said on Sunday that it had committed 16.6 billion hryvnia ($592 million) to ensure the continuing of flights across Ukrainian airspace, according to Prime Minister Denys Shmygal.

"This decision will help to stabilize the situation on the passenger air transportation market and will ensure the safe return of our countrymen who are now overseas," he said on social media after the decision was announced.

In the midst of the crisis, Ukraine's infrastructure ministry convened an emergency conference to discuss how to keep the nation's foreign travel industry operating and prevent the country from becoming further isolated.

Immediately after the meeting on Sunday, the ministry said that "the airspace above Ukraine is open and the state is working on preventing hazards for aircraft."

A statement from Ukraine's infrastructure ministry stated that "certain carriers are experiencing problems as a result of volatility in the insurance market."

According to the Ukrainian news source Interfax-Ukraine, Ukrainian insurance firms had received notice from reinsurers that airlines were not protected for war risks.

During the stalemate, the United States, its Western allies, and other countries have scaled down or evacuated diplomatic workers, and they have encouraged their nationals not to go to Ukraine.

In addition to the United States, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Japan, Latvia, Norway, Slovakia, Israel, Italy, Germany, Turkey, and the Netherlands are among the nations that have recommended their nationals to leave Ukraine and not visit there in the wake of the Ukrainian crisis.

Those working for the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) monitoring mission in Ukraine, which has been monitoring the eight-year conflict in Ukraine's Russian-backed separatist-held east, which has resulted in the deaths of more than 14,000 people, have been affected by the diplomatic drawdown.

Photographs and stories on social media stated that convoys of its white SUVs were departing different regions of the crisis zone as workers moved to comply with travel recommendations issued by their respective governments; however, the company denied this.
